Information Regarding E-mail Accounts

1.          How to get your own e-mail account:

1.1  Foreign students: the registrar will list all foreign studentsˇ¦ name and give it to the Computer Center. You can also apply yourself with your student ID card and ARC.

1.2  Foreign teachers: Please complete the application form. Hand the form and a photocopy of your ID card to the Computer Center.

3.          What you should pay attention to while using Outlook software

3.1  Please receive your email with pop3. The serverˇ¦s name is the same as the open-web mail server.

3.2  Please send your email with SMTP. The serverˇ¦s name is the same as the pop3 server.

4.          In case of problems call: Extension 2522.

 

 

When you have any problem with network usage, please follow the steps below:

1.      Get a correct IP Address

Please contact the person in charge of network management in your department, college, or office for an available IP Address.

 

2.      Check network settings below:

2.1              IP Address

2.2              Subnet

2.3              Preset Gateway IP Address

2.4              DNS

* If you are not sure about the details of the settings above, please contact the person in charge of network management in your department, college, or office.

 

3.      Network jack, transmission speed, network facilities, etc.

Please contact the person in charge of network management in your department, college, or office. He/ she will deal with these matters. If the problems are related to the backbone network, then the Computer Center will work on them.

 

4.      Check if your IP Address is blocked.

4.1              Please refer to http://bbs3.nsysu.edu.tw/txtVersion/boards/cc/ if your IP address is blocked due to violation of intellectual property rights, SPAM MAIL, virus, or overload.

4.2              If the website above does not clarify your situation, please contact the person in charge of network management in your department, college, or office. When your IP Address is blocked, the Computer Center also mails the person in charge of network management in your department, college, or office.

4.3              If you are sure your IP Address is blocked by the Computer Center, please apply for unblocking at Computer Center during office hours.

 

5.      Check if someone else usurped your IP Address.

Please contact the person in charge of network management in your department, college, or office if your IP Address is usurped. He/ she will contact Computer Center. Staff and the Computer Center will deal with the problem.

 

6.      Please refer to http://www.nsysu.edu.tw/property/index.html for more information about using the network.

7.      If you do not know who is in charge of network management in your department, college, or office, please call extension 2512, 2516, and 2517.

 

Wireless Usage Instruction

Step 1.          Click on Start ˇ÷ Settings ˇ÷ Control Panel.

Step 2.          Click on Network

Step 3.          Right-click on wireless network ˇ÷ click Contents

Step 4.          Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) tab ˇ÷ Contents

Step 5.          Enable automatically get IP Address and automatically get DNS server address. Click OK. Attention: Do not set address of IP and DNS yourself!!

Step 6.          Back to the original window. Right-click on wireless network. Click View available wireless network.

Step 7.          You will have several choices. It is suggested to choose SSID as WaveLan Network or to choose AP of NSYSU_CC_WLAN. Click on AP. And make sure you have gotten an IP already (it shows up on the bottom of left side).

Step 8.          Open IE. IE will connect automatically to the homepage of wireless authentication: http://140.117.246.253/login.pl Security signal window will pop up. Click YES and OK.

Step 9.          You made the connection if the authentication page shows up. Enter your user name and password. Guests can apply for a temporary account to the person in charge of network management.

Step 10.      Students, staff, and faculty in NSYSU: Please enter your user name and password in Registered Users field. Enter your email account in the user name field and your password when checking email in the password field. The security signal window will pop up again. Click Yes and OK.

 

The home page of NSYSU will show up. You made the connection!!

 

 

 

Service hours of Computer Center facilities

To offer computers for use as well as computer courses to students, staff, and faculty of NSYSU, there are two PC rooms, one Linux room, and rooms for other purposes and functions in the Computer Center. During the semester, it is open from 8:30AM to 10:30PM. On holidays, it is open from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. There will be different service hours during summer and winter vacation.
